Why We Struggle With Self-Care

self-care Feb 09, 2022

We all know that self-care is important to our well-being and success in life.

This fact alone doesn't make it any easier to carve out more time in your life for it.  Keep reading to discover some of the reasons you may struggle with self-care so that you can be more aware as you try to work it into your routine.

You Feel Shame

Many people don’t find the time for self-care for the simple reason that deep down; they don't believe that they deserve it. This comes from a poor self-image when an individual doesn't believe they are worth the time for proper self-care. Improving your self-image and reminding yourself that you are deserving of self-care can make it easier to schedule time in your busy life for it.

You Don’t Want to Make the Effort

It is also an effort to set aside time out of your schedule to take care of yourself, and some people are too lazy to make this effort. Often this laziness goes back to a poor self-image or poor time management, or both, so these two aspects ...

5 Ways We Can Love Ourselves

self-love Feb 09, 2022

Loving yourself is hard, but it is necessary to lead a happy and successful life.

If you are struggling with where to start, you should give the ways outlined below a shot.

1. Learn to Say No

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Is your schedule too full? Just say no the next time someone asks you to do something. It is also okay to admit that you are too busy and won't be able to get to something you originally thought you would. Anyone who cares about you will be understanding.

2. Stop Looking For Mistakes

It is human nature to be looking for mistakes in yourself constantly. But it would be best if you stopped doing this because it will only get in the way of your self-love. If you make a mistake, take responsibility for it, do everything you can to fix it, and move on. Don't dwell on the mistakes you have made in the past—you can't go back no matter how much you wish you could.

3. Know You Are Special

It is also common for people to spend time comparing themselves to others. It wou...

How to Cultivate Self-Love

self-love Feb 09, 2022

It can be a challenge to love yourself, and if you are struggling with where to start, you aren't alone.

Below are some ideas to help you get started on cultivating self-love to better your life.

Remind Yourself that Everyone is Unique

It will be impossible to love yourself if you don't acknowledge that you will never be anyone else. If you keep wishing to be someone else, you will never love yourself as you are. So start your self-love journey by letting go of the jealousy or envy you hold for someone else and recognizing that you are amazing just the way you are.

Count Your Blessings

Many people find it difficult to cultivate self-love because they always look at what they don't have rather than what they do. This comparison makes it difficult to love yourself because you feel like there is always something more you should be doing. If you find yourself focusing on your shortcomings rather than your skills, maybe sit down and make a list of your skills. This list can help re...

4 Reasons Why Inspiring Others Will Inspire You

inspiration Feb 09, 2022

How many people do we come into contact with every day?

Think about it. You talk to your co-workers or classmates. You brush up against how many strangers from the clerk in the grocery store to the barista who made you that cup of coffee? We spend time with friends, or we go out and do things with the expectation of meeting new people. It’s probably safe to say that in a week you've probably interacted with, at least on some level, a hundred people, most of which you barely talked to at all.

But what if you were capable of taking those interactions deeper, to the level of something special. Unique. What if you could inspire someone else, and indeed make a difference in their lives?

It's a powerful thought. Of course, you can’t change every interaction – it would be impossible to get anything done if you did. But when you stop to think about the value that you bring to the world, the things that you know and understand in ways that no one else does, there comes the point where you h...

Spiritual Care: How Gratitude Can Help Cure a Spiritual Cold

spirituality Jul 29, 2021

We’re so used to living in a world where only what is tangible is real. Making it easy to just believe in what our eyes can see, and our hands can touch. The practice of mindfulness and compassion can help us choose to perceive the outside world from a perspective that is of service to our spiritual health.

Just like how our body gets tired and run down and needs a break from time to time, so does our soul.

When we veer off a steady diet of love and gratitude, our soul begins to lack the proper nutrients that let energy flow, just like in our body. Much like our ability to walk up a flight of stairs requires a certain level of fitness, our ability to choose love in challenging situations requires a healthy connection to our soul.

As someone who’s struggled with depression for years, I’ve learned that having compassion can mean the difference between feeling broken and having what I like to call, a spiritual cold.

Instead of the physical symptoms of a fever keeping you up all night,...

How to Grow Your Spiritual Strength

self-care Jul 29, 2021

Last month I shared my ideas for the concept of a Spiritual Cold, and because of the overwhelming response to continuing this conversation, I wanted to share some of the tools that have helped me maintain my spiritual health.

Let me start by saying, I didn’t always feel as spiritually strong as I do now.  For years I struggled to believe myself when I would say, “I was enough, or worthy of love.”. Trying to hold those mantras in my heart felt like I was lifting fifty pounds with weak arms.  I knew if I wanted to be able to hold love in my heart, I was going have to develop my spiritual strength.

Be forewarned; it will take time, hard work and dedication to develop your spiritual muscles.  Pushing past our fears, to be able to see life from a loving perspective, to be less reactive and more compassionate towards ourselves and others, takes effort.

Just like how one workout won’t make us physically fit, one meditation will not give us the spiritual strength to hold big emotions lik...
